'Give me a shout' - Offaly builder offers to help rebuild Notre Dame after fire
An Offaly builder has offered his support to French President Emmanuel Macron's commitment to rebuild Notre Dame cathedral within five years.
The famous cathedral was ravaged by fire earlier this week but the President has made a number of poignant speeches pledging to restore it "even more beautifully."
During an interview with Midlands 103 radio, Birr builder Henry Thompson from the Old Building Company said: "Macron, give me a shout; I'll come over and help."
The restoration expert said: "As a rule of thumb, restoring an old building using traditional materials costs usually twice as much and takes twice as long."
A number of wealthy people have already donated over €600m to help with the work to rebuild the iconic structure.
