Offaly teenager reveals extraordinary three-stone weight loss
An Offaly 16-year-old who has lost three stone is urging people in his native Ferbane to get behind a month-long healthy food festival aimed at showing people that slimming down doesn’t have to mean going hungry.
Cian Egan has dropped three stone since joining the Ferbane Slimming World group in July 2018 and was the group’s Young Slimmer of the Year 2019.
He believes 'Free Food' has been key to his success: “At first I couldn’t believe how much food I could eat and still lose weight. It was so different from what I’d expected because I always thought losing weight meant not eating very much or cutting out all your favourite meals. How wrong was I?"
"Thanks to the plan and picking up ideas shared by other members in the group, I’ve learned loads about food and cooking, and I can still enjoy burgers and chips, spaghetti Bolognese and curries – all packed full of 'Free Food', of course," the youngster explained.
"I’ve honestly never once felt hungry since joining Slimming World," he said.
Getting encouragement to become more active – including taking up walking and exploring Lough Boora – and receiving support from the group, including consultant Emma Grennan who has lost weight herself have also been huge factors
in his slimming success.
“I don’t think I could have achieved everything I have without them. Life’s completely different for me now and I’m so grateful to Slimming World for that – and proud of myself too.”
“I have thrown out all my XL t-shirts and I am now wearing a size small, I’m so happy with my new look."
Emma, who runs the Ferbane Slimming World group, says: “Cian is a huge inspiration. he’s learned healthy habits that will stay with him for life, so worrying about his weight is definitely a thing of the past."
"There have been so many stories in the news about child obesity recently and we know that young people desperately
need help and support to make changes. I hope Cian and his passion for healthy eating and Free Food will inspire people to make a change of their own."
“We certainly had a great time celebrating his achievements and what better way to celebrate than with food."
