A young Offaly man was fined €500 after he was prosecuted in relation to a two-car collision in a Limerick village last summer.
Michael Frankie Kerrigan, 19, of Kilcrutin, Tullamore, County Offaly, was convicted, at Newcastle West Court, of ‘driving without reasonable consideration’ for other road users at Main Street, Croom on June 18, 2018.
Garda Patrick Buckley said the defendant did not comply with signage or road markings and failed to stop at the junction of Main Street and High Street at around 1.40am.
When asked why he had failed to stop he replied “I dunno”.
Judge Mary Larkin was told the car being driven by Mr Kerrigan struck another car but that nobody was injured in the collision.
“It was a minor accident, he came through a stop sign and hit the other car,” said Garda Buckley.
The judge imposed a €500 fine.
