Massive Edenderry town development gets funding boost

An ambitious plan to regenerate the town centre of Edenderry has received a boost following a funding announcement by Minister for Rural & Community Development, Michael Ring today, February 14.

€75,000 has been allocated to Edenderry under the ambitious Edenderry JKL Backlands project, allowing for the creation of an architectural masterplan for a mixed use development at JKL Street Edenderry.

It's understood the plans include development of the old Tesco supermarket site and will stretch from JKL Street to Blundell Park. It is thought an arts centre, theatre, library, housing and commercial units all form part of the ambitious development.

"This crucial funding injection will help to rejuvenate the town and it will greatly enhance the town’s future development," Offaly TD Marcella Corcoran Kennedy said.

"I have been working for some time on this project with my party colleague, Cllr Noel Cribbin and I arranged a meeting in Leinster House in November last with Cllr Cribbin and Minister Ring to discuss this exciting proposal."

Today's funding moves the project one step closer with the formulation of a masterplan document and design.
