Offaly man with cancer 'will do anything for more time' with family
A Tullamore barbers shop is planning a fundraiser on Saturday, October 27, in aid of local man, Daniel Gorry who is undergoing cancer treatment.
McIvor's Barbers in Tullamore are donating all of their takings from Saturday, October 27, to a GoFundMe campaign set up in Daniel's name to support him and his family through his treatment.
Tullamore man Daniel (28) has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer of the oesophagus, and is undergoing chemotherapy to 'prolong is life.'
Daniel, who is married to Rachel and has three small children, Leah (7), Holly (3) and Hannah (2), was told recently that the cancer had spread to five other areas of his body and that it was not operable.
His current spell of chemotherapy will only serve to prolong his life if successful, but Daniel "will not give up this fight easily," according to his extended family who are campaigning on his behalf.
"Daniel is a strong young man who will not give up this fight too easy and will do anything to get more time to spend with the four women in his life," his sister-in-law said.
The GoFundMe page set up in his name will support his family through this difficult period in their lives. It has already raised over €11,000.
"As we all know trips to the hospital are draining emotionally, physically but also financially. Obviously, Daniel cannot work at this present time and his wife had to leave her job to care for Daniel and their three small children," the campaign says.
