Gardai on the beat in Offaly spot cars with key in the ignition

Gardai in Offaly have appealed to drivers to be more responsible after a number of vehicles were spotted with keys left in the ignition.

Gardai on the beat in Birr have noticed multiple cars with the keys left in the ignition with the drivers nowhere to be seen in recent weeks.

Laois-Offaly Garda Crime Prevention Officer, Graham Kavanagh said he would "appeal to people to stop and think about their actions for a second."

"Never leave your keys in your car and walk away," Sgt. Kavanagh added.

Gardai in Birr are also appealing to people to avoid leaving valuables in their cars following a number of thefts from vehicles where property was left visible and then stolen.

Gardai warn that drivers are vulnerable if they fail to lock up their vehicles or leave property visible.

They are appealing to people to remove any property from their car before parking it up.
