Numerous trees reportedly down across Offaly - Council begins clean-up
The outdoor staff of Offaly County Council are now working to clear numerous routes of fallen trees after the winds from Storm Ali dissipated in the last couple of hours.
In a statement, Offaly County Council said: "Our crews are aware of fallen trees and other debris on roads throughout the county and will be working to clear them as soon as it is safe. Please take care on the roads."
While numerous reports have come into us about fallen trees, the most serious incident occurred near Clara this morning when a tree came down on a car at Lahinch Cross, Kilcoursey on the Clara to Kilbeggan road. One occupant of the car sustained minor injuries.
Elsewhere, a tree was reported down on the road between Cadamstown and Kinnity near Coolacrease. A number of reports of trees down were made at housing estates in Tullamore.
In Edenderry, a tree is down on the Dublin Road, 500 metres from the Lawton & Foley garage, blocking half the road, while further out the same road towards Broadford, a number of large branches remain on the road.
A number of trees are partially blocking roads around Clonbullogue also today, Wednesday, September 19. A large tree was also reported to be fully blocking the Edenderry to Timahoe road on Wednesday afternoon.
A number of partially fallen trees on the Edenderry to Clogherinkoe road were cut and removed earlier today while a number of large pieces of vegetation remain on the route. Caution is advised.
A number of trees are also down between Edenderry and Rathangan, with the road partially blocked in a number of spots. Elsewhere in the town of Edenderry, there are trees down on Clonmullen Lane and Killane View, with the latter blocking half the road. Traffic lights at Killane Cross were also reported to be out as a power cut hit the Tullamore side of the town.
A number of trees are also reported down on the Kilclonfert side of Croghan. A number of other routes, including around Birr, Portarlington, Kilcormac and Clara are also affected by fallen debris.
Extreme caution is advised for all those travelling on the roads around the county.
