Offaly student presents stunning monastery model to local monks
An Offaly secondary school student has wowed an order of monks by presenting them with an incredible model of their monastery in Roscrea.
The monks at Mount St. Joseph Abbey have thanked Darrell Lally, who studies at St. Brendan's Community School in Birr, after he delivered the model "out of the blue."
"Sometimes, we are blown away by the generosity of others," the monks said.
"Last week, a young gentleman arrived out of the blue and presented us with a scale model of our monastery."
Darrell constructed the model as part of his school studies and according to the monks, "thought it would be well appreciated inside the full-sized version of the Roscrea monastery.
"He was right," they proclaimed as they hailed the detail and scale of the model as "exemplary."
"We're all afraid to go near it," they added. "A half an hour was spent by monks picking out the windows of their cells," the monastery said.
"Darrell, thank you so much, it will be treasured," they concluded.
