Boy (14) viciously assaulted in broad daylight in Offaly

Gardai in Tullamore are investigating the vicious assault of a 14-year-old boy in Tullamore.

The incident occurred when the boy was on his way to the shops and was set upon by four youths at Market Square in the town early in the evening of Wednesday, June 6.

He sustained serious injuries to his face and jaw, including a broken eye socket, and was brought to Tullamore General Hospital with his injuries.

Gardaí have confirmed to the Offaly Express that the investigation is ongoing into this attack and that no arrests have been made to date.

The boy's mother has been vocal on social media and local radio following the attack, saying her son is lucky to be alive. "If he had been left in a vegetated state from a bang to the head, I could have been spoon-feeding him for the rest of his life," Sandra Gorman told Midlands 103

At the time of the attack, Sandra posted gruesome images of her son's injuries. Her post read: "I’m sickened - my 14-year-old son was viciously attacked on Wednesday evening left with three breaks to his eye socket and a broken cheekbone. Please make sure your kids are safe walking in town. We are in St James hospital waiting on surgery to have plates put in his face to try and fix the damage. It’s shocking in this day and age that kids can’t walk safely in broad daylight."

Sandra has now reported that her son is recovering well but has appealed to parents to control their kids and also to other victims of crimes like this to speak out against attackers.

Gardaí are continuing their investigation into this incident.
