Offaly nursing unit 'not closing down' despite local fears
A number of Offaly TDs have moved to quell the fears of locals after local media adverts suggested that Birr Community Nursing Unit was set to close.
Both Barry Cowen and Marcella Corcoran Kennedy have said they contacted the HSE in recent days to confirm the status of the home.
Marcella Corcoran Kennedy assured people that Birr Community Nursing Unit "will remain open now and into the future despite advertisements to the contrary in recent media outlets."
“I have been inundated with representations from concerned constituents from Birr and surrounding areas in response to a recent advertisement claiming that the nursing unit was under threat. I have received categorical assurances from the HSE today that there is absolutely no question of Birr Community Nursing Unit closing now or in the future," Marcella added.
“The excellent care and attention provided to all the residents and patients who attend the facility is greatly appreciated by everybody in the community. I saw at firsthand the wonderful care provided to my own family members who stayed at Birr Community Nursing Unit in the past," she added.
“I am very pleased to be in a position to refute any allegation that there is a danger of this fantastic facility closing.”
Fianna Fail TD Barry Cowen also made a short statement, saying, "I understand there were reports in local media this week of the possible closure of Birr Community Nursing Unit. Following concerns from many Constituents, I have spoken directly with the HSE who advised that there are no plans to close the unit in Birr now or in the foreseeable future."
