REVEALED: One in seven driving tests booked in Offaly do not take place

Figures obtained by the Offaly Express through a Freedom of Information Request to the Road Safety Authority show that a staggering number of driving tests booked in Offaly simply do not take place.

The figures show that of 4,139 tests booked in Offaly in 2017, a total of 607, close to 15%, did not take place. Of that figure, 418 people simply did not show up.

Another 189 were not conducted due to a variety of factors including the candidate not showing up, the car not having insurance, the car not having L Plates, the candidate not producing a driving license or the car not having a valid NCT Disc.

Incredibly, 75 tests were not carried out because the car was not deemed to be road worthy.

During the course of 2017, 129 driving tests in Offaly were abandoned after they started.
