WARNING: Driving conditions dangerous across Offaly as torrential rain hits

Driving conditions are reported to be dangerous across many parts of Offaly this evening as heavy and  prolonged spells of rain have caused some localised flooding.

One particularly heavy downpour with thunder and lightning struck the south of the county leaving standing water on roads and decreasing visibility.

The latest Met Eireann Rainfall Radar picture shows Offaly at the centre of some of the heavy rain in recent hours.

A Status Orange Weather Warning is in place for Status Orange - Thunder warning for Kildare, Laois, Longford, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, Roscommon, Cork, Limerick and Tipperary until 10pm.
