The Garda Twitter handle, known for its light-hearted style, said the Offaly Roads Policing Unit are "tyred" of seeing this offence.
Not only was the van driver speeding but when gardaí inspected the vehicle they found this extremely worn tyre. They said the motorist didn't have "a thread of an excuse."
All puns aside, the gardaí have continually warned of the extreme dangers posed by bald tyres to the car owners themselves and other road users. Tyres like this one affect car stability and grip, meaning it is easier for the driver to lose control of their vehicle.
A fixed charge penalty notice was issued to this van driver in Offaly.
