For the fourth time in two weeks, the HSE's Escalation Policy has been put in place at the Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore.

The hospital has been near the top of the INMO's Trolley Watch figures for two weeks as it struggles to deal with a recent surge in admissions.

A statement from the hospital stated, "The Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore is experiencing high levels of attendances with many patients requiring admission today. As a result, the HSE’s Escalation Policy has been activated at the hospital. In order to assist us we are requesting that patients in the first instance, consider using their GP out of hours for medical assessment, where possible. The Hospital regrets that any patient should experience delays in accessing In patient beds."
