Offaly gardaí issue summer burglary warning

Offaly gardaí have issued a summer safety campaign to combat the threat of burglars over the coming months.

According to Laois/Offaly Garda Crime Prevention Officer, Sgt. Graham Kavanagh, 1 in 4 burglaries carried out over the summer months are through unsecured windows and doors.

He says the most common time for these types of burglaries to take place are between midday and 3pm, while midnight to 4am is also a period targeted by thieves.

Sgt. Kavanagh's advice to avoid these types of crimes is to remember to lock up your house in the first instance and leave a light on if you are leaving the house.

Victims of burglaries should always contact gardaí as soon as possible after the discovery of the crime.
