Woman arrested after fire on Offaly halting site

Gardaí have arrested one woman for public order offences after responding to reports of anti-social behaviour on a makeshift halting site in Edenderry this week.

It is believed a fire was started in an unoccupied caravan on the site, which is located between Tesco and the Clonmullen Lane area of Edenderry.

Gardaí and fire brigade personnel attended the scene and a woman in her late teens was arrested for public order offences. She was not arrested in connection with the fire itself.

The woman was brought to Tullamore Garda Station where she was charged to appear at Tullamore District Court on the  March 21.

Residents in the Clonmullen area have been complaining in recent months about anti-social behaviour on the site.

The Offaly Express understands that gardai also moved those living there off the site on Wednesday and that Offaly County Council moved in to clear and secure the site soon after.
