Offaly gardaí set up incident room in Tullamore to deal with extreme snow storm

Offaly gardaí have informed the Offaly Express that they has established incident rooms in Birr and Tullamore to deal with the severe weather event hitting the country this week.

Incident rooms have been set up in Portlaoise, Tullamore and Birr in order to manage what gardaí have described as "the extraordinary weather event which the country is experiencing."

"We currently have an orange weather warning but anticipate weather conditions will get considerably worse in the next few hours," a source said.

"There is a heavy covering of snow in both Laois and Offaly we ask that all unnecessary travel be avoided," the source added.

"All our motorway and national routes remain open, however motorists are advised to exercise caution. We are participating in ongoing meetings with other State agencies to provide a response as required. Be prepared in your homes and keep in contact with elderly and vulnerable persons."
