Over a foot of snow covers much of Offaly

Offaly County Council have informed the Offaly Express that the District Court sittings scheduled in Tullamore today are now cancelled.

Among the proceedings due today was the appearance of people arrested and charged as part of a Garda drugs sting cracking down on drug dealing in Offaly.

Those sittings will now be rescheduled for the coming weeks.

Elsewhere, the council has said all roads remain open apart from the Kinnitty to Mountrath road, the R440 Regional Road and the L8001-1 across the Slieve Blooms, which was closed yesterday.

Gritting and ploughing took place on most routes as the council moves to deal with the heavy snowfall overnight.
