After experiencing high levels of attendances, the HSE's Escalation Policy was activated at the Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore yesterday.

The Escalation Policy remains in place as of lunch time on Monday but will be reviewed this afternoon.

The HSE is requesting that patients, in the first instance, consider using their GP for medical assessment, where possible and keep the ED for the most seriously ill.

The Hospital regrets that any patient should have to wait for a prolonged period on a trolley.
