Offaly hit with fresh weather warning after night of snow and ice
Following a night of snow, ice and high winds, Offaly has been included in a fresh weather warning issued this morning by Met Éireann.
The Status Yellow wind warning covers Munster, Leinster and Galway and forecasts very strong winds for Wednesday evening and into the early hours of Thursday.
Southwest to west winds will reach mean speeds between 50 and 65km/h with gusts between 90 and 110 km/h.
The warning is valid from 6pm on Wednesday evening until 2am on Thursday morning.
The north of the country will once again experience wintry showers, while it will mostly fall as heavy rain in Offaly and Leinster. Temperatures could hit zero overnight which may result in frosty conditions on the roads.
The temperatures look set to dip further on Thursday and Friday night, resulting in yet more hazardous driving conditions. Gardaí and the RSA are advising drivers to slow down and be alert for black ice in sheltered areas.
