A school bus on the way to Coláiste Íosagáin secondary school has skidded off the road in Portarlington this Tuesday morning, December 12.
The bus is understood to have slipped on ice on the Bog Road, down into the soft margin on the side of the road, where it got stuck.
Around 18 students had to get out of the bus which seats about 20, and walk about 300m to their school.
The incident took place around 8:45am.
Nobody was injured in the incident.
The principal Seamus Bennett with a deputy principal attended the scene to ensure the safety of their pupils.
"I am glad no-one was hurt. My concern was that the students were fine and they were," he said.
The road is "in bad old shape" he said.
"This is a back road, it was flooded a lot recently, it is in bad old shape. I gather it was a bit icy," he said.
Coláiste Iosagáin is on the Offaly side of Portarlington, with Offaly County Council having responsibility for the road. The school is one of the biggest in the midlands, with over 1,000 pupils from the Laois and Offaly areas.
