Offaly schools and businesses warned about keeping cash on premises

Crime Prevention Officer for Laois and Offaly Sergeant Graham Kavanagh is asking schools and business owners to think about whether they need to keep cash in their premises overnight and over weekends.

He noted that schools particularly are a target at times leading up to cash generating school events and his advice is these funds should be lodged in financial institutions.

Sergeant Kavanagh added, "the criminal knows that schools collect money and therefore attracts a risk. Small business owners are asked to avoid storing cash in cashboxes and tills and to secure it effectively or lodge it in bank/night safe."
