WEATHER: Offaly to freeze with temperature to dip below zero overnight

The cold spell continues

The cold spell currently gripping the country looks set to continue with temperatures set to plummet again on Wednesday night.

Afternoon highs on Wednesday will stay between 5 to 7 degrees in moderate northerly breezes, while tonight will be cold and dry.

The lowest temperatures expected by Met Éireann are 0 to -2 degrees, which will lead to widespread frost and icy patches. Northerly winds will be light inland but fresh on the coast.

Thursday will be another cold day with a mix of cloud, sunny spells and isolated showers.

Highest temperatures of 6 or to 7 degrees in moderate north to northwest breezes.

Driving conditions in the county and the country generally are set to be treacherous. Drivers are warned to take precautions by slowing down, increasing braking distances and remaining vigilant for black ice.
