Offaly hit with weather warning with rain and cold snap on the way
Offaly has been included in a weather warning issued by Met Éireann this afternoon.
The weather forecaster is expected heavy rain to move up from the south overnight, clearing later on Wednesday, affecting all of Leinster and Munster in the process.
30 to 40mm are expected, but larger totals are possible on high ground. The status yellow warning was issued on Tuesday and remains valid from midnight on Tuesday until 9pm on Wednesday evening.
Driving conditions will be worsened in the affected areas as a result.
Elsewhere, Met Éireann is forecasting for sub zero temperature this week. After the bulk of the rain has cleared on Wednesday night, temperatures dipping below zero will set in overnight.
The night time temperatures are set to remain low over the weekend. Daily temperatures will also be colder than recent days with daytime lows of five degrees expected.
