Prosecution for alleged sexual assault at Tullamore District Court
A TEENAGE male accused of sexually assaulting a girl has been remanded on bail at Tullamore District Court.
Judge Susan Fay heard that at the time of the alleged offence the defendant was 13 and the alleged victim was 14.
The accused is now 15 years of age and the DPP had directed that the matter could be disposed of summarily, Sergeant Brendan Kearns told the court.
After hearing some detail of the evidence from gardai Judge Fay remanded the accused on bail to appear in court again on February 24 next when the question of jurisdiction will be considered.
It is a condition of the bail that the accused have no contact, directly or indirectly, with the alleged injured party.
The accused person cannot be named for legal reasons.
