Alleged Offaly theft victim is now 98 years of age, court hears

A WOMAN from whom jewellery was allegedly stolen in Edenderry last year is now 98 years of age, Tullamore Circuit Court heard.

Martin Wall (22), Glasnarget, Rathdrum, Co Wicklow is accused of stealing jewellery consisting of four rings, valued at €8,050, and €150 cash from a property in Edenderry town on June 26 last.

The man is also alleged to have dishonestly by deception, induced the owner of the jewellery to pay €500 in advance for painting jobs by false representation with the intention of making gain for himself or another.

When Mr Wall appeared before the District Court in November he was sent forward to the Circuit Court and at that court on Tuesday (January 13), Shane Geraghty, BL, prosecuting, applied for an adjournment and said the alleged injured party was 98.

Mr Geraghty applied for a remand in custody with an order for Mr Wall to be produced in court this Friday, January 16.

Judge Keenan Johnson made that order.
