THE tallypeople have completed their work in the Offaly count centre and their figures indicate a clear victory for Catherine Connolly.

There were only enough volunteers to track 62% of the ballot boxes in the constituency and the resulting tallies show that Connolly received a 61% share of the vote.

Heather Humphreys was second on 29.5% and Jim Gavin third on 9.5%.

Those figures exclude the spoiled votes, which accounted for 18% of the total tallied.

Checking of doubtful ballots – where the intention of the voter is unclear - is almost complete and local returning officer Sean Ryan will soon send the Offaly result to the central count centre in Dublin Castle.
