Plans unveiled for major works on Garda Station in Offaly
Plans have been unveiled for a major works on a large Garda Station in Offaly.
The Office of Public Works (OPW) have published plans for the works at Clara Garda Station which is a protected structure.
The proposed works consist of the internal refurbishment of the Garda Station to include painting and decorating.
The plans also include significant internal works to increase Universal Access within the building. This includes the removal of an existing internal wall and widening of the internal hall door to the entrance to accommodate universal access.
The plans also include the construction of an internal wall adjacent to the staircase to separate the public office from private offices on the first floor and other minor internal alterations to create a public office.
The plans also include the provision of one designated accessible car parking space to north side of the station. The total site area relating to this proposed development is 1437m².

According to the OPW, a desktop Appropriate Assessment Screening was undertaken for the proposed development. It concluded that there will be no likely significant effects on any Natura 2000 sites, either alone or in combination with, any other plans or projects.
It added that a Preliminary Examination for Environmental Impact Assessment and Appropriate Assessment Screening was undertaken for the proposed development. It concluded that having regard to the nature, scale and location of the proposed project, neither EIA Screening nor an Appropriate Assessment is required.

Drawings and particulars of the proposed development will be available for inspection by appointment only and with two working day’s notice, between 10am and 12.30pm and between 2.30pm and 4.00pm, Monday to Friday during a six-week
