Tullamore man told to avoid unpleasant name-calling by District Court Judge

“What he needs to avoid,” commented the Judge, “is calling someone unpleasant names such as 'a fat tramp'.”

COURTHOUSE 1

JUDGE Andrew Cody advised a defendant to avoid unpleasant name-calling, during the October 15 sitting of Tullamore District Court.

Daniel Hickey, Cloncollig, Tullamore was charged with threatening behaviour on two separate occasions. The first occurred on May 8, 2024 in River View Business Park, Cloncollig, Tullamore; the second on May 15, 2024 in Cloncollig Housing Estate, Tullamore.

The defending barrister said Mr Hickey's behaviour was due to a particular woman.

“This woman gave him a lot of trouble over a number of years,” the barrister said. “He wants to avoid her at all costs.”

“What he needs to avoid,” commented Judge Cody, “is calling someone unpleasant names such as 'a fat tramp'.”

He convicted and sentenced to two months imprisonment, suspending for two years.
