A man accused of burglary in Edenderry was refused bail and remanded in custody after Tullamore District Court heard the alleged victim was a 97-year-old woman.

Martin Wall (22), Glasnarget, Rathdrum, Co Wicklow is alleged to have entered a premises and committed theft on June 26 last.

Detective Garda Joseph Bradley said bail was opposed and stated the alleged facts would be that Mr Wall and another individual approached the woman in the town and spoke to her about paint for her house before entering it.

Judge Andrew Cody said the charge was very serious and he remanded Mr Wall in custody to appear in court again on September 24. The appearance will be by video link.
