Hocus Pocus for Dóchas – Offaly Cancer Support Group

DOCHAS - Offaly Cancer Support Group - is delighted to announce the launch of Hocus Pocus for Dóchas, a Halloween-themed 5km timed and chipped run/walk taking place at Lough Boora Discovery Park on Saturday, 25th October 2025.

The event, generously sponsored by Colton Motors, promises a fun-filled day out for runners, walkers, families, and Halloween enthusiasts of all ages. Participants are encouraged to don their favourite costumes and enjoy a scenic 5km route with a spooky twist.

Every registered participant will receive: A finisher’s medal; A branded buff; Access to face painters, entertainers and live actors along the way; A chance to win prizes for best costumes and fastest times; A place to remember.

On the morning of the event, Dóchas will also host a very special unveiling of a memorial plaque within the beauty of Lough Boora Discovery Park. This plaque will serve as a space for families and friends to reflect and remember loved ones who may have availed of the support of Dóchas, and for all those touched by cancer. Nestled in nature, it will stand as a lasting symbol of remembrance, hope and community.

Speaking of the event, John Conroy, Service Manager, said: “We are so excited to bring a Halloween-themed fun run to the heart of Offaly. Hocus Pocus for Dóchas is about bringing the community together in a fun, active way while raising vital funds to ensure we can continue providing free cancer support services to individuals and families across the county. The unveiling of our new memorial plaque also adds a very meaningful dimension, offering a place of peace where people can remember loved ones in the midst of the surrounds of the beautiful Lough Boora Discovery Park.

The timed and chipped run/walk ensures that competitive runners can record an official time, while families and casual walkers can soak up the festive atmosphere. Costumes are encouraged, adding to the Halloween spirit.

All proceeds from the event will go directly to Dóchas Offaly Cancer Support Group, helping to sustain and expand free psychosocial supports for people affected by cancer and their families throughout Offaly.
