End of an era as Fergie's Bar in Tullamore changes hands after 30 years

Popular Market Square publican Fergie Quinn thanks customers and loyal staff

FERGIE'S BAR

ONE of Tullamore's most popular public houses changed hands at the end of July.

Fergie's Bar in Market Square was owned and run by husband and wife duo Fergie and Mairead Quinn since 1995.

In a statement on Facebook, Fergie thanked all his loyal customers and staff from the past three decades and remembered those who had passed away.

His post said: "Hi Folks, hope everyone is keeping well. As most people know, myself and Mairead have sold Fergie’s Bar.

The new owners took over the business last Wednesday, July 30. Thankfully it will be kept going as a public house under the same name of Fergie’s Bar. Myself and Mairead (pictured below) would like to thank all our family, loyal staff and of course our loyal customers over the last 30 years.

We have made so many friends in Fergie’s over the years. A special thanks to so many GAA clubs, especially Cappincur GAA who we have sponsored from day one – soccer, rugby, pitch and putt clubs who have supported us.

Would you believe when we started in 1995 we still have the same customers who we were still serving in 2025. I would like to thank my fellow publicans who have helped us out when we were stuck and the friendships we made over the years. I can’t forget all the local musicians who have played with us, again some of our live bands are still playing with us since day one. Thank you for your entertainment for so long. At a later stage , I will add some old photos an new photos of different events over the years.

As I said earlier, we lost some amazing people who worked with us over the years, Siobhain O Neill , Pauline Brennan, Nigel Costello , Frank McEvoy, Jordan Murphy. These were all amazing people,, we will never forget them. We also lost some amazing customers, we will never forget them and thinking of all their families.

I personally would like to thank especially my wife Mairead, daughter Alannah and my mother for everything over the years . A special thanks to my staff , especially over the last three weeks, Josephine, Martin, David and Katie and all the part time staff.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to give a party send off which we were hoping to give as I’m having a small health issue at the moment which will keep me out of action for a while. So hopefully in the near future we will have that party..

Anyway folks thanks for everything again, it was a pleasure working in Tullamore for the past 41 years. I will see you all shortly hopefully .. We would like to wish the new owners the very best of luck at Fergie’s Bar - Fergie & Mairead Quinn."
