The motorist was stopped on the M7 motorway in Laois which has a 120kph limit.

“The Fast and the Clueless,” Gardaí wrote in a social media post.

They said “Laois RPU (Roads Policing Unit) stopped a tourist driving rental vehicle at 180kph on the M7 earlier today. GPS said “arrive in 1 hour,” but they aimed for 20 minutes....,” they wrote.

“Welcome to Ireland. Speed limits still apply,” Gardaí added.

They said the driver was arrested and charged to appear before a sitting of Portlaoise District Court.
