LIKE him or loathe him, British broadcaster Piers Morgan is not one to steer clear of controversy.

He was once punched in the head by Jeremy Clarkson while Prince Harry is no fan either.

Now the broadcaster has revealed he has close family ties with county Offaly.

In an extensive interview in the Irish Times last weekend, Morgan revealed he has a connection with Banagher, in that his father's sister moved to the west Offaly town where his cousins grew up.

But he told the Irish Times that he "can plausibly deny being a fully paid up Biffo."

He said a DNA test had shown that his genetic make-up was mainly Irish and he is now in the process of applying for an Irish passport.
