Young man charged with dangerous driving in Offaly after he 'took off' from Garda checkpoint

A young man fled a Garda checkpoint during a late night incident in Offaly recently.

A Mandatory Intoxicant Testing checkpoint was being operated by gardai on Sunday night, June 9 on Mill Street, Birr

According to gardai, at 2.10am an approaching car failed to stop at the checkpoint and 'took off' at speed.

The motorist was pursued by the Gardaí through Birr Town, out the Kinnitty road and eventually came to a stop at Cadamstown.

Gardai say the young man was arrested and charged with a number of counts of dangerous driving.
