A superb drive secured a podium finish for Alex Dunne in the Feature Race at Red Bull Ring to cap a memorable weekend for the Offaly driver.

Starting seventh on the grid, he lost some ground off the start but kept his composure and after the pit stops, he cut through the field with a series of overtaking moves to get up to second place with eight laps to go, a position he held with ease to the end of the race.

If there is one down side for the Offaly driver, it's that the race winner Richard Verschoor was his nearest challenger in the World Championship and the Dutch driver has moved into the lead in the World Championship ahead of Dunne with seven rounds of the Championship complete and seven more remaining.

The second place finish was the icing on an incredible three days for Alex Dunne.

On Friday he became the first Irish driver in 22 years to drive an F1 car and he made the paddock sit up and take notice when he recorded the fourth fastest time in Free Practice 1.

On Saturday he had some luck on his side to finish sixth in the sprint race before a stunning drive for a second place finish on Sunday.

The F2 Championship moves on to Silverstone next weekend where Alex Dunne will be hoping to regain the lead in the Championship.
