GROUPS from Killavilla to Kilclonfert, Ballyskenach to Ballinagar, Clareen to Clara, have received funding under the Local Enhancement Programme 2025.

A total of 213 groups from across the county received funding totalling €177,000 under the scheme.

The funding will support a wide range of initiatives—from sports clubs and youth organisations to community halls, residents’ associations, tidy towns groups and more—showcasing the strength and heart of Offaly’s voluntary sector.

Welcoming the news, Offaly TD Tony McCormack praised the work of local groups and volunteers: “This is a brilliant result for Offaly. Our county is built on people who give their time, energy, and commitment to their local communities. Whether it’s coaching underage teams, running local events, or maintaining community facilities, their efforts are what keep our towns and villages thriving.”

Deputy McCormack also commended the dedicated work of his council colleagues who support these organisations year-round:

The Local Enhancement Programme is part of a national €7 million initiative supporting over 5,400 projects, with Offaly’s share reflecting the county’s strong tradition of volunteering and civic action.

Deputy McCormack added: “In Fianna Fáil, we believe in supporting those who support others. This programme is an investment in the people of Offaly—those who step up without being asked, who organise, who care, and who lead. It’s a testament to what community really means.”

“This funding ensures that grassroots groups can continue their vital work—making Offaly a better place for everyone, now and into the future.”

Cathaoirleach Cllr Audrey Hennessy Kennedy and Chief Executive Anna Marie Delaney of Offaly County Council also welcomed the funding which they said will support local Groups with ongoing running costs and small-scale capital expenses.

Ms Delaney congratulated all the successful applicants and thanked them for all the work they do in providing services in their local communities.

Recently appointed Cathaoirleach of Offaly LCDC, Robert McDermott, also warmly welcomed the funding stating that "this funding will be of great benefit to the Groups and their communities”
