Alex Dunne's dream of a win at the iconic Monaco track came to an end within 200 metres of the start after a massive pile up at the first corner.
Starting from pole position, the Offaly driver was slow off the line and was just behind Victor Martins going into the tight first corner.
As Martins tuned in, there was contact with Alex Dunne's front wheel leading to the two cars going into the barrier which caused a massive pile up.
The race was red flagged with numerous cars involved and some even going airborne.
The race was instantly red flagged and was delayed for a long time as the marshals cleaned up the track.
Dunne went into the race as Championship leader.
