A man who stole over two thousand euro worth of fragrance testers from a pharmacy in Tullamore received community service in lieu of a prison sentence.

Before the court was Pavel Malik c/o Skoda Cottage, Ballicolla, Laois.

On May 3, 2024 at Dolan's Pharmacy, The Bridge Centre, Tullamore, Mr Malik stole a selection of the testers to the value of €2,273, the property of Roger Guiney, contrary to section 4 of the criminal justice theft and fraud offences. Mr Malik had four previous convictions, two for no insurance and one for possession of drugs.

Solicitor Patrick Martin said his client wasn't working. He had taken 26 items in total and all of them had been recovered.

Mr Malik was deemed to be suitable for community service. Judge Andrew Cody imposed 120 hours community service in lieu of three months in prison to be completed within a period of 12 months.
