Air ambulance called after child falls from moving vehicle on busy road in the Midlands

Miraculous escape for child at notorious Portlaoise Mountmellick N80 junction - expect delays

A child appears to have had an miraculous escape from a road traffic accident on the busy N80 just outside Mountmellick on Monday.

An air ambulance was also called to the scene of the accident on the busy national route at the Portlaoise side of the town near the Derrycloney turn-off on Monday evening, March 31.

Gardaí confirmed that a child fell from a moving vehicle that was travelling on the road at the time. The air ambulance attended and removed the child to the hospital. Miraculously, it appears that life-threatening injuries were not suffered by the young boy.

The location of the accident has been the scene of many collisions as motorists make the turn to use an unofficial bypass of Mountmellick to avoid congestion.

The N80 runs through several counties from Wexford to Offaly. It is the main link between Portlaoise and Tullamore
