Three months off road for motorist speeding in Offaly in Mercedes
Driving a 2015 Dublin registered Mercedes at 88kph in a 50kph zone in Clara resulted in a man being disqualified for three months.
Garda Pat McGee prosecuted Joseph Kelly (56), Redmondstown, Castletown Geoghegan, Co Westmeath, for exceeding the speed limit at Kilbeggan Road, Kilcoursey, on July 27 last year.
Garda McGee told Tullamore District Court that a fixed charge penalty notice had been served but it had been returned.
Judge Andrew Cody read what had been written on the notice and described it as “the usual gobbledygook”.
Garda McGee said the fixed charge notice had not been paid and added that Mr Kelly had previous convictions for holding a mobile phone while driving, having no tax and not wearing a seat belt.
Judge Cody also fined the accused €350. He fixed recognisances for an appeal.
