Eight months prison sentences for Tullamore man for stealing from local stores
A defendant was convicted and sentenced to eight months imprisonment for stealing from two stores in Tullamore during last week's Tullamore Court sitting.
Steven Bracken, 9 Church Street Tullamore was charged with stealing a bottle of vodka from Aldi, O'Connell Street Tullamore on January 11, 2025. He was also charged with stealing a bottle of wine from Spar, Patrick St, Tullamore on the 12th of February last.
Mr Bracken was charged as well with being intoxicated in public on Arden Road Tullamore on February 15 last, and stealing groceries from Leavy's Centra, O'Carroll St, Tullamore on February 10 last.
He was charged as well with trespassing in 23B Church St Tullamore on January 8th, 2025 and being intoxicated and verbally abusive in Tullamore Hospital on January 18, 2025. He was charged with intoxication and threatening behaviour at the A&E Department in Tullamore Hospital on February 2, 2025.
Sergeant Brendan Kearns pointed out that Mr Bracken was verbally abusive to the hospital staff in Tullamore Hospital.
“He has 129 previous convictions including 38 for public order offences.”
The defending solicitor Aisling Maloney said her client had previously been living in the property he trespassed in (23B). The theft values were very low, Ms Maloney pointed out.
“My client has been very open about his addiction difficulties and is very open to getting help. He was homeless for a while and got into a vicious cycle. His alcohol addiction is driving all of these difficulties.”
Judge Andrew Cody convicted and sentenced as stated.
