A man pleaded guilty to taking two handbags from a premises in Tullamore. Before the District Court was Declan Holt (55) of Castleview Park, Edenderry.
Mr Holt was charged with entering 'The Retreat' on Main Street, Tullamore, as a trespasser on June 23, 2023 and stealing the bags which contained around €250 each, Sergeant Richard Thornton told the court.
The court heard Declan Holt is the father of two children aged 15 and 32.
His solicitor Aisling Maloney said he was very embarrassed and had difficulty remembering what happened as he was on heroin at the time.
Ms Maloney said he has since given up the habit because of his children. He is on social welfare but given time he will pay back the money.
She asked Judge Andrew Cody for as much time as possible as he has a child to maintain.
Mr Holt had 21 previous convictions including drugs offences, hit and run, excessive speed and theft. He has also been previously disqualified from driving,
Judge Andrew Cody put the case back to May 21 for payment of €500.
