STORM EOWYN: ESB map shows huge extent of power outages as 725,000 premises without power PIC NIALL O MARA
The ESB's Pwercheck map shows the staggering extent of current power outages across Ireland as 725,000 homes and businesses are without power.
The ESB's www.powercheck.ie allows people to check power outages in their area and it usually provides an estimated time for power to be restored.
However the unprecedented scale of the disruption caused by Storm Eowyn means that thousands of people face possibly a number of days and even a week without power before all faults are repaired.
Speaking on RTE earlier today, the ESB's Brian Tapley said that Storm Eowyn caused extensive damage across the electricity network.
He said, "Storm Darragh had about 395,000 customers without power and that took seven days so that’s why, with some degree of confidence, we think it’s more than a week but that’ll be in the worst affected areas."
Power outages are also causing disruption to water supplies across parts of the country.
The ESB is reminding people that fallen electricity wires are live and dangerous and to never approach or touch them. Call the emergency service immediately on 1800 372 999 or (+353 21 2382410)
