EDENDERRY-based company Bretland Construction has opened a new headquarters in the north Offaly town.
Founded by Carbury native Fechin Daly and his wife Mary in 1999, the opening also coincided with the company's 25th birthday celebration.
During those 25 years Bretland Construction has grown to become one of Ireland's leading construction companies and in his remarks as he conducted the official opening, Offaly County Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Tony McCormack paid tribute to the Dalys and their team.
“What an amazing journey it has been for Bretland Construction. What we see here today is the result of hard work, resilience and dedication. Bretland Construction has built a reputation for delivering high quality projects across Ireland and also contributing to the development of vibrant, sustainable communities,” said Cllr McCormack.
“I am thrilled to join the team today in celebrating this significant milestone, which also reflects positively on the development and economic growth of the Edenderry area.”
Speaking to the Tullamore Tribune, Mr Daly, 64, recalled how he started off as a small builder with ground work and civil works and the company then went from strength to strength.
“We went into more commercial work and streetscape and did work for Offaly County Council and South Dublin County Council and Pfizer,” he said.
He added: “It didn't happen overnight. It's been a good trip. Hard going, 24/7.” The company now has more than 60 employees.
Recently Bretland completed 38 social housing units for Offaly County Council in Clara and the company has also done a 52-unit residential development in Laois, along with major commercial and office projects.
Speaking at the opening, Coleman Yates, deputy managing director, Bretland Construction, remembered the era when Fechin started the company.
“Those were different times with the millennium bug and the whole Y2K hysteria. We all remember well our fear that our computers would break down and the aircraft would fall out of the sky,” said Mr Yates.
“Through all those years and changes we have remained dedicated to the vision of this company. Now Bretland Construction has become a name synonymous with excellence in the Irish construction industry.”
He said Bretland embraces the newest technology and materials with a results-driven team and pointed out that it also sponsors the Offaly Ladies GAA team and the Bretland Park ground.
