Long diversions as busy Offaly road to close for seven weeks
Long diversions will be in place when works commence on a busy road in Offaly next week.
Offaly County Council has announced that works will be carried out on the R420 Tullamore to Portarlington Road at Cloneygowan from Tuesday, September 10 up to Thursday, October 31.
Offaly County Council says the road closure is necessary to facilitate the installation of new traffic signals at Derrykillane and Derreen Bridges in Cloneygowan.
Traffic travelling North from Portarlington towards Cloneygowan on the R420 will divert in Portarlington onto the Traffic Management Diversion Route, (Via the Mountmellick Road (R423) & then turn right onto the L1015) to continue North on the R420.
Traffic travelling North from Portarlington towards Geashill on the R420 will divert in Portarlington onto the Traffic Management Diversion Route, (Spa Street Via the R419, turning left onto the R400 and then turning left onto the L1013) to continue North on the R420.
All heavy good vehicles (HGV) traffic travelling North from Portarlington towards Tullamore on the R420 will divert in Portarlington onto the Traffic Management Diversion Route, (Via the R423 towards Mountmellick, turning right onto the R422 towards Mountmellick Town, and then onto the N80 towards Tullamore) to continue North.
Traffic travelling South from Cloneygowan towards Portarlington on the R420 will divert in Cloneygowan onto the Traffic Management Diversion Route, (Cloneyhurke Road Via the L1015 & then turning left onto the R423) to continue towards Portarlington.
Traffic travelling South from Geashill towards Portarlington on the R420 will divert outside Geashill onto the Traffic Management Diversion Route, (Walsh Island Road Via the L1013, turning right onto the R400 and then turning right onto the R419 ) to continue towards Portarlington.
All heavy good vehicles traffic travelling South from Tullamore towards Portarington on the R420 will divert at the Cloncollog Roundabout on the N52 onto the Traffic Management Diversion Route, (Via the N80 towards Mountmellick, onto the R422 in Mountmellick, and then turning left onto the R423 towards Portarington).
