In total three first time councillors were elected in the Birr Electoral Area and the first over the line was Fine Gael's Hugh Egan. The farmer from Ballinahown eventually heard his name called as being elected on Monday night after a long three day count. He was the fifth Fine Gael councillor elected to Offaly County Council.
