Offaly commuters to get new later 'last train' from Dublin but there's a catch
There is good news for Offaly commuters this week after Irish Rail and the NTA proposed a new later service from Heuston Station to Galway, serving Tullamore and Clara.
Commuters have long complained about the times of the trains leaving Dublin in the evening but later this year, a new 8.30pm service from the capital will be laid on Monday to Saturday.
Unfortunately, passengers will have to wait another few months for the service. From August 25, 2024, the new Heuston/Galway service (Mon-Sat) will begin taking passengers. It will arrive in Galway just after 11pm at night. This will provide a later last service from Dublin to Tullamore and Clara.
Fine Gael councillor and Local Election hopeful for the Tullamore area, Neil Feighery, welcomed the news this week.
"This is a huge win for local commuters and is a priority that I and my colleagues on Tullamore Municipal District have been working diligently on for a number of years now.

"Irish Rail senior management attended the March meeting of the Tullamore Municipal District and I highlighted the huge need for a later train service from Heuston to allow more flexibility for service users. The delegation undertook to seek approval from the NTA for a later service.
"Tullamore is lucky to have a quality train service and is a key attraction for our town and I know from talking to new residents during my canvass who have settled in town, the train service was key to their decision."
