Man was shouting at shop staff and Gardai in Tullamore
A man pleaded guilty during last week's Tullamore Court to being verbally abusive towards staff and Gardaí.
Adam Kennedy, 19 Erkina Court, Rathdowney, Co Laois was charged with being intoxicated and engaging in threatening behaviour on March 5 last at Church Street, Tullamore.
Sergeant Richard Thornton told the court that the defendat was “highly intoxicated” in a shop on Church Street.
“He was shouting abuse at the staff. Gardai were called. He left the shop and when the Gardaí arrived he was aggressive towards them. He told them to f*** off and said 'My taxes pay your f***ing wages.' He has nine previous convictions, all road traffic related, none for public order.”
In mitigation the solicitor Aisling Maloney said her client had “held his hands up at the earliest stage and has pleaded guilty. He is remorseful about what happened. He was out of work at the time and was going through a very difficult period. He was homeless at the time. He was lashing out because of his frustration and anger. He apologises to the court for his behaviour. He is a single man and has no children.”
Judge Andrew Cody remanded the defendant on continuing bail to July 24 next and ordered that he pay €2,000 to the Garda Benevolent Fund by that date or else face the possibility of a custodial sentence.
