Offaly's Nicole Turner has won gold for Ireland in a dead heat in the same race where her Irish teammate won bronze at the Para Swimming European Championships.
Having already bagged bronze at the 2024 event in Portugal, Nicole hit the podium again after the Women's 50m Freestyle S6 Final.
Turner from Garryhinch won gold after touching the wall in a dead heat with Nora Meister of Switzerland in the final. Bronze was won by Nicole's teammate Dearbhaile Brady, during day five of the at the Penteada Olympic Pools Complex in Funchal, Portugal.
While Nicole has represented Ireland at the Paralympics and won multiple medals at national and international level, it's her first gold medal at a major championship.
"That was special and to do it as a joint was even more special," Turner said afterwards. "To be honest the 50 free I love it. It's an event that I really enjoy and I did really enjoy that race".
